Description: A federal returning officer (RO) administers federal electoral events in the riding to which they are appointed. The Chief Electoral Officer appoints federal ROs, and they report to him.

Key activities

  • plans and organizes the delivery of access to voting
  • manages and controls financial, material, and human resources
  • in their electoral district, administers the Canada Elections Act, Referendum Act and related legislation such as the Official Languages Act and the Financial Administration Act
  • communicates information to the public, candidates, political parties, field liaison officers, and Elections Canada
  • contributes to the improvement of the electoral process

Pay

$445.29 per month (before the election period); $23,322.04 (during election period)
